- Sony wowed everyone at CES 2007 when it unwrapped some anorexic OLED TVs but it’s really pushing the boundaries on this one by showing off an OLED TV panel that’s just 0.3mm, or 0.01in, thick.
As you can see from the photo above, it’s pretty damn hard to see and makes the very sexy Sony Drive XEL-1 OLED TV, a 3mm thick TV that uses a 1.4mm thin panel, look positively obese.

- The panel, on show at Display 2008 in Japan, uses a new TFT substrate and less glass support, which apparently makes it too fragile for typical forms of transportation. In other words, you can buy it but expect to pay lot extra for having it beamed into your living room, molecule by molecule.
Even thinner, was a 3.5in display that measured in at just 0.2mm (0.008in) thick with a resolution 320x220 pixels - perfect for long-life portable media players.
It seems likely that the next commercially available OLED TV from Sony will be a stunning 27in model – shown here at CES 2008 - boasting Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. However, considering that the 11in XEL-1 costs a whopping £850, not too many will be able to afford it whenever it arrives.
