| http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/03/10/xbox-360-hdd-triple-60gbAlthough the patent was filed ages ago. Those who own a PSP, if you do a newtork update and follow the prompts you can now install Go Messenger. This allows normal MSN/Yahoo chat type messages to your friends and if you have a PSP 2000 (slim one) you can use it for skype calls as well. PSP 1000 and PSP2000 can both be fitted with the PSP camera which can now also be used as a webcam in voicechat. You need to set up a BT.com account takes 2 mins and your off. My PSP username is UNDIESRULES if you get yourselves on there, any missed messages can be recovered when people log in later, like text messages. http://uk.playstation.com/psp/ | |

| Yay!!! Even more cool PSP stuff inbound This time its pay per view Sky, shame its not free but i think the pay as you go part will be fine for me. http://uk.gizmodo.com/2008/04/24/psp_getting_first_video_downlo.html - Quote :
- Go!View will let PSP owners create their own TV schedule from Sky’s line-up of entertainment, sport and movies. Downloading the content, after registering for the subscription service or as pay-as-you-go customer, is done via a PC or laptop.
“Go!View allows PSP users to take advantage of a unique service, adding another dimension to PSP’s offering” said Owen Jenkinson, Go!View Marketing Manager. “The opportunity to watch top TV and movies on-the-go and on-demand will allow PSP owners to enjoy their favourite entertainment on their own terms, enhancing the PSP’s offering as a portable gaming console.” [img] [/img]

| Soon owners of PS3 will be able to port Blu Ray discs over to their PSP too.... http://uk.gizmodo.com/2008/04/01/psp_to_get_bluray_movie_ports.html - Quote :
- Sony has confirmed that owners of the PSP will be able to transfer copies of their Blu-ray movies to the device later this year.
The company is working on a technology called Portable Copy that will allow PS3 owners to transfer Blu-ray movies - a standard def version only - to their PSPs. Still, it sure beats crappy UMDs.
Initial speculation held that the feature would come with the recent 2.20 firmware update for the PS3 but that didn’t happen. Now Sony has confirmed the technology is in development and the first Blu-ray movies sporting Portable Copy will arrive ‘later this year’.
Personally, I think it’s a great add-on. The PSP is already becoming a very versatile device while the increased integration and connectivity between the PSP and PS3 is making them a tough double act to beat.-Martin Lynch
On top of this, a new Slim and Lite version of PS3 is expected soon, with the Processor now made on a 45nm process and a new 350g heatsink in development (previous were 700g and 500g respectively) So i wouldnt be surprised if the prices start to tumble soon as well, particularly after the 360 prices came down by 50 quid the other week. http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/astepclosertolightandslimplaystation3.shtml - Quote :
- During the Japanese Techno-Frontier exhibition, Furukawa Electric Co Ltd exhibited what they called the Third Generation Heat Sink For Playstation 3.
The new heat sink weights 350 grams compared to the first and second generations which weighted 700g and 500g respectively. It comprises of two separate parts to cover the Cell Processor and the TSX Graphics chip individually, compared both of its predecessors which comprised of a single unit each.
This news, alongside with the fact that the Playstation 3 Cell processor has been shrunk to 45nm, might mean that we are about to see the light and slim Playstation 3 come to life.
Furukawa Electric stated that the new heat sink is nearing the end of its development. This on top of the messanger service for PSP mean its just getting better all the time

| Holy cow!! Even more PSP stuff inbound on V.4 software update. This time Google will be fully integrated, so no need to enter the PSP browser and type stuff in, it even saves your last 20 pages - Quote :
- This new upgrade replicates the Google Internet search experience, delivering the same search results that you’d get at www.google.com. And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn’t be easier.
After you download and install the firmware on your PSP, click on the XMB’s Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon. Enter your keywords and then let Google’s algorithms do the work. You’ll need to be connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot. Googling something on the go has never been more convenient on your PSP.
Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. To do this simply press the up or down directional buttons while playing a video. Enjoy!

| Its true, telly on yer PSP!! Mint!! - Quote :
- Sony and broadcaster Sky have finally televised details of their joint subscription TV-on-PSP service, which is now available to the portable console's punters.
Dubbed Go!View, the service enables gamers to access a variety of telly content through Sky, including films. Shows are downloaded onto the handheld Sony gadget through a PC - the system uses the Windows-only Kontiki peer-to-peer content delivery system that underpins the BBC's standalone iPlayer and similar on-demand services from Sky and Channel 4.
Lots of TV shows are already available, including Top Gear, Doctor Who and one of Reg Hardware’s personal favourites, I’m Alan Partridge. There's a focus on BBC and Sky content. Films and sports are available for download too.
Users have three subscription packages available to them: Entertainment, Sport and Comedy. A single package costs £5/€7 per month, while two packages are billed at £8/€10 per month. You can get all three for a tenner a month. Individual shows can be rented for £1.50, and films cost £2.50 each to watch for a limited period.

| PSP 3000 (PSP Mark 3) has now been ifficially announced and on the way, be with us in October, just in time for you to invest in one for Christmas..... - Quote :
- Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it would launch a new PSP handheld entertainment system (PSP-3000) featuring an advanced LCD that further improves the very popular, high resolution PSP display.
The new PSP will be available in stores in Japan, Asia, North America and Europe from October 2008.
While inheriting the basic design and functionality of the current "slim and light" PSP, the image quality on the new LCD screen is dramatically enhanced, and a built-in microphone is added to meet the PSP users' demand to enjoy games and content with voice input functionality without the use of a separate microphone.
Offering the highest-level contrast ratio, response time, and wider color gamut possible on a portable LCD screen, the new PSP is capable of displaying movies and photos in more natural and vibrant colors on its high resolution 4.3 inch wide screen. The new LCD screen adopts an anti-reflection technology, which enables users to see the screen more clearly in well-lit places, even when used outdoors. The built-in microphone will allow users to easily enjoy games that utilize a microphone, as well as Skype and other communication tools.
Further expanding PSP's entertainment capabilities, the video-out port is also expanded to output gameplay in interlace format, which will allow new PSP users to enjoy games on non-progressive TVs by using separately sold cables. With the current "slim and light" PSP, games can be displayed on progressive TVs only.
In addition to the basic "Piano Black" color, the new PSP will also come in "Pearl White" and "Mystic Silver". http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/psp300officiallyannouncedanddetailed.shtml

| I hope this takes off in the UK, it would be mint, free wifi for owners of PSP wherever you are. - Quote :
- Sony and Fon are going to work together to give Japanese PSP owners free WiFi access across the country
Japanese Sony PlayStation Portable owners will be able to become "Foneros" after Sony and WiFi provider FON recently announced they will combine forces to make it possible for PSP owners to have free internet access.
There are more than 44,000 FON spots spread across Japan, with at least 2,000 specifically in Tokyo, FON said. Sony will contribute by releasing a new Internet browser for PSP owners to use when they connect to a FON WiFi connection.
Japanese PSP owners who connect to a FON WiFi hot spot will be able to download custom Dissidia: Final Fantasy themes, for the latest game in the series expected to be released in December. Gamers also will be able to download game demos, wallpapers, themes, and video game clips.
For the time being, this is a FON deal exclusive to Japan only, and Sony did not state if the company plans to extend this to other markets.
The Spanish-based company made headlines in 2006 after gaining support from Google and Skype with the idea of letting owners share WiFi hotspots using "FON Ready Routers." Those users who don't want to switch out their routers only need to download and install a firmware update that will make their router FON compatible.

| Official launch for PSP 3000 in Japan is October 16th, which will probably mean the UK launch will follow soon afterwards, just in time for Christmas?? It looks as though it will sell for the same price as the current PSP 2000 (the slim one) model, which may again force the price of PSP 1000 (the fat one) as the last one did. The newer features include a faster and better screen, and the inclusion of a microphone, where previously the use of a headset with built in mic has been required for Skype calls. Video Out functionality has also been improved so it can also be viewed on an analogue telly. More info.. http://www.dailytech.com/Sony+to+Launch+PSP3000+on+October+16+in+Japan/article12833.htm | |

| PSP spftware update to version 5 is on the way, though tbh it looks a load of dog-egg. Its just an extra 'app' which allows you to buy stuff 'a la' Ipod, from the company store, whoopdey doo!!! - Quote :
- Sony announced new firmware updates for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable for late October. Firmware version 2.50 for the PS3 and version 5.00 for PSP will provide new functionality the two consoles currently do not have.
The PSP firmware version 5.00 will allow you to sign up for the PlayStation Network and access the PlayStation store using your PSP. It will be possible to download games, demos, and trailers using your PSP while connected to a Wi-Fi network. The update also adds a sleep timer option that can be used while you are playing music on your PSP. A full screen keyboard option for text entry and a redesigned background for the XMB are also included in the firmware upgrade.
The PS3 firmware version 2.50 will provide support for the official Bluetooth PS3 headset. The update enables High-Quality (HQ) mode, which delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat. An added on-screen indicator shows battery status, volume level and use of HQ mode.
An in-game screenshot tool will be added that allows gamers to capture their favorite gaming moments. This feature will be supported on a game by game basis. Video functionality has been improved with the addition of a Scene Search feature similar to the feature on the PSP. Activating this feature while viewing a video on the PS3 will allow you to break up the video into scenes that you can access by pressing the X button. You can break the videos into one, two, or five minute intervals.
The wireless controllers for your PS3 can now be set to turn off automatically after not being used for a set amount of time. Another power saving feature is it will now be possible turn off the PS3 automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed.
Other miscellaneous improvements include an improved interface for The PlayStation Trophy Achievement system. A redeem codes option has been added on the PlayStation store to make it easier to redeem your PlayStation Network Cards and promotion codes. Finally, the status of your offline friends on your Friends list will be visible underneath their avatars, showing how long it has been since they were last online. http://www.dailytech.com/New+Firmware+Upates+for+PS3+PSP+Announced/article13192.htm

| Is PSP2 on the way? I like to think so, but then, TBH the PSP as it is, is a top bit of kit. It has all the gadgets attached that you could need and can be charged from an AFV in less than an hour - Quote :
- Imagination Technologies Group, licensor of graphics processor cores, is rumoured to be working with Sony on the latest iteration of the PlayStation Portable.
The company recently issued a press release stating that it was working with "a major international consumer electronics company", which is now rumoured to be Sony, according to EETimes.
Citing unnamed sources, the announcement is for an upgrade to the "PSP2" says the report, but Imagination would only state it is for a "high-volume consumer device".
Although the report mentions PSP2, it isn't clear whether the technology would be for an entirely new iteration of the handheld hardware, or a remodel of the orginal, such as the PSP 3000.
Imagination Technologies' licensing partners include Sega Sammy, Intel and Samsung.
Sony Europe has told GamesIndustry.biz that it will not "comment on rumour and speculation". http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/imagination-technologies-working-on-psp-2-processors

| Goals blasted to your PSP? It could be on the way, almost as useful as those replays you see on your phone - Quote :
- You know how it is: you've paid a fortune for your season ticket, another fortune for the new strip, spent months learning new rude chants and ways to kick rival fans in the crown jewels but, when your team scores, you can't actually see it because you're miles away from the pitch.
Sony and Arsenal though are trialling a new service that will allow PSP-owning fans at the new Emirates stadium the chance to see instant replays of goals and contentious tackles. Odd, but true. More reading http://uk.gizmodo.com/2009/01/22/arsenal_sony_trial_live_replay.html
